1928 Mercedes-Benz 26/120/180 Modell S Tourenwagen by Sindelfingen

The Mercedes-Benz S Tourer was delivered to Mercedes-Benz Inc. in New York in June 1928. Five months later, the Tourer was purchased by Zalmon Gilbert Simmons II and brought home to Greenwich, Connecticut. He was the president of the Simmons Company, inventor of the Beautyrest mattress, which at the time revolutionized the bedding industry.
From then until 1953, the history of the car is unknown.
In 1953, Leo Warila of Waltham, Massachusetts, a well-known member of the Veteran Motor Car Club of America, purchased an S Tourer. He and his family participated in many rallies in this car. In 1972, Leo Warila sold the Tourer to Ben Moser, from whom Berthold Rueckwarth bought it in 1973. The car has been in the family ever since.
Berthold Rueckwarth immediately carried out a complete renovation of the car. The Tourer returned to the road in 1975. In 1976 it won one of the first Monte Carlo Rallye for historic cars and has since taken part in many other rallies. The car has been well maintained and has only required minor repairs to date.
The MB S Tourer has matching numbers and original bodywork.
